These Insider Tips are provided by Bob Mackowycz, Toronto-based Radio Broadcaster/ Strategic Brand Planner, Toronto Star columnist and Pop Culture Analyst Extraordinaire. Here, he offers some straightforward advice on how to "face the issue" with confidence and flair.

When you are in the role of a media pundit commenting on the issues facing your industry, or have to prepare a senior executive for the role, whether on radio or in print, on television or on the Internet, there are three important points to keep in mind. By doing so, you'll make the right contact with the audience.

1. INSIGHT: Help the audience understand the issues, especially the complex ones…it's a complicated planet and your job is to throw some intelligent light on the situation.

2. INFORMATION: Work with real content, not just empty clichés. Most people seek out meaningful information.

3. PROFUNDITY: Offer solutions to the problems and issues you are discussing. Any one can identify problems but most people are simply looking for answers, especially quality-of-life answers. Here's a powerful and current issue example: Everyone decries street crime, but one of the biggest crimes --- ATM robberies --- could be eliminated with a few simple moves such as lighting the ATM area and always having it visible from the street, as well as putting the video camera where it can't be reached and publicze that fact.

Bankers could band together, for example, develop their own "Neighbourhood Watch" - type program on behalf of their collective customers' physical safety and welfare and, at the same time, turn their "public relations" tide.

Know your facts, then you can turn to the solutions. Nothing replaces informed knowledge in the world of pundits. Being creative and entertaining can't hurt either.
