![]() Insider Tips - 3 1. Over the years, we've found it pays to double, triple, and quadruple-check everything about a communications vehicle, whether it's a press release or a congratulatory package. The only other professionals who should be checking more, are lawyers. 2. Always do follow-up notes or e-mails. We know your mother has already taught you this little civility but most of us were bad with it back then and haven't improved with age or experience. Drop a note of congratulations, for example, when someone's taken on a new position, both outside your company and, just as importantly, inside your company. And if it's a short note, handwrite it. Nothing looks stranger, and less sincere, than two lines of type floating on a sea of official white stationery, especially if your assistant signed it in your absence. 3. Respond to all media calls within an hour, or have the designated spokesperson respond. If you promise to supply something immediately, do it, or call back and explain why there'll be a delay. And follow up to make sure any information sent by fax, E-mail or courier actually arrived before you leave for the day, even if you don't consider the material to be crucial.
